Welcome

Presidents message:

2014-2015 has been an exciting year for the Lethbridge Kinsmen! It has been an equally exciting and rewarding year for me! Being the President of a club with so many amazing members in an awesome organization like Kinsmen has been both humbling and uplifting!

Our guys have been putting in the time to support and raise money for many events and causes this year! Here are a few of the things we’ve tackled so far:

Annual Slow Pitch Tournament

Our ball tournament has become a tradition for many softball teams in our area, and this year’s lived up to expectations. 15 teams participated and everyone had a great time! As always, the homerun derby was a highlight. Our new corporate sponsor, Infinity Property Care, was a very welcome addition to our fund-raising efforts! Register for this year’s tournament, Saturday July 18 – Sunday July 19, 2015, right away by e-mailing softball@lethbridgekinsmen.ca!

Ice Bucket Challenge

We made an awesome video of our version which went viral on Facebook! But the big plus was the $500 we donated to the ALS Society via the Kinettes ALS Walk. Some of our guys volunteered at the Walk, too!

Annual K-40/Kinsmen Golf Tournament

We tore up the fairways (and the bar!) and had a blast at our annual joint golf tournament and raised $1,250 for CF!

Girl Scout Camp

We spent a weekend and built a large new deck on the dining hall to replace the one that was washed away in the spring floods. Despite many power tools in use, no limbs were lost! We also fed 687,934,288 mosquitoes very well.

Tricks For Eats

This was our 2nd Annual joint campaign with the Lethbridge Kinettes to collect donations for the Interfaith Food Bank on the night before Halloween. We collected over 1400 lbs. of food in a couple of hours!

Fun Casinos

Our club provided excellent entertainment for corporate Christmas and other parties from November through April, while raising money for our community through their generous donations. This is an excellent way to raise our profile and integrate us into this amazing community. If you’re interested in learning more about our “Fun Casinos”, or want to book one for your special event, please email me at president@lethbridgekinsmen.ca.

Mardi Gras

In an effort to provide sustainability for our community donations, we implemented a new fundraiser – our Inaugural Mardi Gras Gala, presented by Scotiabank. Through corporate and private donations of silent and live auction items, prizes, and money, along with sales of souvenir glasses, games, and raffles, we raised approximately $12,000 for the Youth of Lethbridge! Of course, we’d like to thank our major sponsors: Scotiabank, Infinity Property Care, and Airtech heating & Air Conditioning! Our guys worked long and hard, and we are proud of every one of them! It was a killer party – everyone had a fantastic time! Next year will be even better! Watch for tickets to go on sale in October!

Break the Ice Funspeil

The weekend of March 6-8 was filled with cries of “Hurry hard!”, as 20 teams curled in our 2nd Annual “Break the Ice Funspeil”. Proceeds went to STARS and the Curling Rox Program (youth curling) and close to 200 people had an awesome weekend!

Donations

This fall and winter we have supported several groups and causes in Lethbridge, most notably:

Ready, Set, Go! We donated $20,000 for under-privileged children to buy new shoes.

Leader In Me For the second year in a row, we donated to this leadership development program in schools. This year we gave $4,000 for teacher training and materials.

Scouts and Guides We donated $4,750 for the purchase of a new trailer to haul camping and other gear.

YMCA Strong Kids We donated $3,000 (25% of the proceeds from Mardi Gras) to this program to help under-privileged children participate in exercise and day-camp programs.

Elevating Lives We donated $2,000 to the YWCA Harbour House in support of Trevor Stuart’s fundraiser.

Youth Organizations Throughout the year we have supported other youth groups and programs, such as Woods Homes, 5th on 5th, the Boys and Girls Clubs, And Lethbridge Family Centre.

Club and personal Growth

While Kinsmen work hard to support local community needs in a variety of ways, we are also about developing and growing character in our members. Our goal this year has been to develop leadership in our men, for now and for the future. We sent our president to Kin Kollege, 6 members to Fall Learning Conference in Brooks, and 6 members to the Zone Leadership Conference! We actually have 12 members on our executive!

We have had several inter-club activities with the Lethbridge Kinettes and the Coaldale Kinsmen, as well as supporting and volunteering at each other’s fund raisers. We are truly enjoying our growing relationships!

2015/16 is going to be another great year! We look forward to serving our community and to having a great time doing it! If anyone is interested in joining our club, or even checking us out, please contact me right away!
