Canadian Blood Services

We are Excited to Grow our Partnership with Canadian Blood Services to a National Scale

Canadian Blood Services is the national, not-for-profit, healthcare organization that manages Canada’s blood supply in all provinces and territories outside of Québec. They also administer the OneMatch Stem Cell program and Marrow Network & the National Public Cord Blood Bank.

Partnering with CBS helps to fulfill a huge national need and complements our relationship with Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Fifty-two percent of Canadians say they or a family member have needed blood. Someone with leukemia can need up to 8 donors worth of blood a week. Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin Clubs serve the community’s greatest need. Donating blood is a nation-wide need that touches most Canadians in their lifetime. More than 80,000 first-time blood donors are needed this year to meet hospital demand.

Kin Canada is currently looking for CBS Champions. CBS offers training and teambuilding. They have provincial representatives that would be paired with a Service Director or other chosen District Champion. The CBS staff member would provide training and resources for District Champions, and help set goals and build the local partnership. They have trained speakers to educate and inspire members, and a fun and interactive presentation event called “What’s Your Type”. District 2 has had great success with this low-to-no cost service initiative, with 192 units of blood donated this year alone. In the past 3 years, CBS has already had past and/or current relationships with 36 clubs across Canada. It will be very easy to show and measure our impact- a single donor can save lives. CBS will track our donations for us. If you are interested in helping lead the inititiave for your district, contact Lindsay at lirvine@kincanada.ca for more details.
